A sunny winter's day at Abangane

Abangane Guest Lodge is located in the Lowveld which offers the most beautiful winter days. Chilli at night but beautiful warm days, ranging from 20-26 degrees.

The birdlife is not as present as in summer, but one still can observe beautiful
species like the Purple Crested Lorie or, as seen in the photo, the Scarlet-Chested Sunbird.

Bafana Bafana at Abangane Guest Lodge

Nearly exactly 1 year after the kick off of the Soccer World Cup 2010, Abangane Guest Lodge had the pleasure to host Siphiwe Tshabalala (WC National Team/Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs) and friends, Yeye Letsholonyane (WC National Team/Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs), Jimmy Tau (Kaizer Chiefs) and Morgan Gould (Bafana Bafana and Supersport United) for a 2 nights stay.
Siphiwe scored the opening goal against Mexico. The game ended 1:1 (see our blog post) and boosted the nations confidence in Bafana Bafana, the South African National Team.

See Siphiwe Tshbalala, Yeye Lestholonyane and Jimmy Tau together with the owners of Abangane Guest Lodge, Ridwaan Perry and Klaus Hollander, in this photo.

New regional Logo

The new regional destination brand was proudly launched at Indaba 2011.

The region had many different brands and names, which was rather confusing. There was a need for a strong regional identity and brand and so it was decided to merge the areas known as The Wild Frontier, Lowveld Legogote and The Panorama (this area is also known as The Lowveld / Ehlanzeni District). It was also agreed that the Kruger National Park and surrounding private reserves forms a large and important part of our destination and need to be included in the brand. After a long and thorough consultation process with all the stakeholders in the region, our own regional brand was created.

As custodian of the brand, the Lowveld Chamber of Business and Tourism will encourage all product owners and businesses to use this destination name and brand to help build an identity for our beautiful region. “We also need to live up to the promise of this brand, which is to show our visitors that conservation, hospitality and friendliness are simply ‘In our Nature’.”

Cape Town No.1 of Top 25 Destinations in the World

Cape Town glistens at the southern toe of the African continent. Tourist brochure-views at Blaauwberg Beach and Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens are within easy driving distance of "The Mother City." The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve provides sweeping sea vistas, hiking trails and wildlife encounters. On a more somber note, travelers can visit Robben Island, the prison where Nelson Mandela was held for 27 years.

When visiting Sout Africa, Kruger National Park is an absolute MUST DO! Abangane Guest Lodge is just a 15 minute drive from the closest gate to KNP.

Legality of accommodation providers

Opening and running an accommodation business does not only mean “I have got a room available, let’s rent it out”.

Operating such a business also means there are legal obligations one has to adhere to. These also come at a cost for the establishment which of course needs to be recovered and therefore are partially reflected in the rate the accommodation provider offers.

When comparing quotes this needs to be considered, comparing apples with apples. It is for your service and safety!

Happy Easter to all guests and friends!!!

Easter (Old English: Ēostre; Greek: Πάσχα, Paskha; Aramaic and Hebrew: פֶּסחא‎ Pasḥa,) is the central feast in the Christian liturgical year.[1] According to the Canonical gospels, Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Day or Easter Sunday[2] (also Resurrection Day or Resurrection Sunday). The chronology of his death and resurrection is variously interpreted to be between AD 26 and 36, traditionally 33.

Easter marks the end of Lent, a forty-day period of fasting, prayer, and penance. The last week of the Lent is called Holy Week, and it contains Good Friday, commemorating the crucifixion and death of Jesus. Easter is followed by fifty-day period called Eastertide or the Easter Season, ending with Pentecost Sunday.

Easter is a moveable feast, meaning it is not fixed in relation to the civil calendar. It occurs during the spring, in March or April; the method for determining the date of Easter Sunday is complex, based on lunisolar calendar.

Easter is linked to the Jewish Passover by much of its symbolism, as well as by its position in the calendar. In many European languages, the words for "Easter" and "Passover" are etymologically related or homonymous.[3] The term "Pascha", from the same root, is also used in English to refer to Easter.

Easter customs vary across the Christian world, but decorating Easter eggs is a common motif. In the Western world, customs such as egg hunting and Easter Bunny extend from the domain of church, and often have a secular character.

KRUGER NATIONAL PARK RESORT HOTELS … CASINOS? … WHAT NEXT?

Sanparks (South African National Parks Agency) is planning two Hotel complexes inside Kruger National Park. One in Malelane and one in Skukuza.

We at Abangane Guest Lodge do not support developments like this with their impact on nature as well as the deviation from Sanparks purpose and believe it will take the authentic bush feel away from one of our most precious goods in South Africa!

A day at the Reptile Park

Picturesque Hazyview, in the heart of Mpumalanga, is the home of Perry's Bridge Reptile Park, situated on the Panorama Route which also includes God's Window, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Three Rondavels and spectacular waterfalls.

The reptile park is ideally placed in the quaint tourist center of Perry's Bridge on the corner of the R40 (main road) and the R536 (Road to Sabie). This is all within easy reach of a number of major timeshare resorts as well as Abangane Guest Lodge.
Ridwaan Perry, owner of Abangane Guest Lodge, has been very brave!

The meaning of Valentine's Day

Saint Valentine's Day, commonly shortened to Valentine's Day, is an annual commemoration held on February 14 celebrating love and affection between intimate companions. The day is named after one or more early Christian martyrs, Saint Valentine, and was established by Pope Gelasius I in 496 AD.....

Lioness and cubs

At long last our wish has come true! A Lioness with cubs.

We spent 3 nights at the Nshawu Guest House at the Olifants camp in Kruger National Park with 3 other couples (all Guest House owners from Hazyview). The wildlife has as always been very interesting but this time it has topped our expectations.

On 2 different days could we observe Lionesses with their cubs. The first sighting was ON the Letaba bridge towards Mopani and the second sighting on our way home, just after the Olifants bridge towards Satara. After years of waiting we were lucky to have this awesome experience twice.
We at Abangane Guest Lodge are happy to organise your day tours into the park as self-drive or organised game drive in an open vehicle.
